Born between 1976 and 2001, this generation has a perhaps unfair reputation for laziness and entitlement &#8212; and the labor market is soon going to have to absorb them in droves.<\/em><br \/>\nDespite their renown as multitasking video gamers, millennials can be an industrious crowd, who have <span style=\"text-decoration:underline;\">different employment priorities<\/span> from their (generally-speaking) baby boomers managers.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_301\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-301\" style=\"width: 1698px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-301\" src=\"\/knowledge-center\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/screen-shot-2014-04-02-at-12-31-15-pm-1024x543.png\" alt=\"Generally speaking, millennials have different workplace priorities -- and ones that sometimes clash with their management's view of &quot;a good day's work.&quot; \" width=\"1698\" height=\"902\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-301\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Millennials&#8217; preferences sometimes clash with their management&#8217;s view of &#8220;a good day&#8217;s work.&#8221;<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>So, what exactly are Millennials looking for in their jobs?<\/strong><br \/>\nOf course, not all Millennials share the same set of preferences, but here are a few principal values that many seek in their employment.<br \/>\n<strong>1. Collaboration.<\/strong> Millennials do well with project-based work in teams and open communication channels. They value both offering and hearing opinions before making decisions.<br \/>\n<strong>2. An emphasis on &#8220;company culture.&#8221;<\/strong> In this Sentinel <a href=\"http:\/\/www.news-sentinel.com\/apps\/pbcs.dll\/article?AID=%2F20140217%2FBUSINESS%2F302179992\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">article<\/a>, Nikki Sutton, owner of Level Interior Architecture, said:&nbsp;\u201c&#8217;Millennials didn&#8217;t grow up studying in libraries. They studied in coffee shops and more social environments, so that is reflected in what they expect when they go to work every day.&#8217;\u201d<br \/>\n<strong>3. Idealism.&nbsp;<\/strong>According to this <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/robasghar\/2014\/01\/13\/what-millennials-want-in-the-workplace-and-why-you-should-start-giving-it-to-them\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Forbes article<\/a>, 64% of millennials want to make the world &#8220;a better place.&#8221; Millennials aren&#8217;t looking to be faceless worker-bees, but valued participants who can enact change in their work and their world.<br \/>\n<strong>4. Flexibility.&nbsp;<\/strong>Millennials aren&#8217;t looking for just a life-work balance, but rather life-work integration. The preponderance of technology and mobile computing makes accessing work materials easy (and sometimes a compulsive habit) when millennials are out of the office.<br \/>\n<strong>5. Entrepreneurship. <\/strong>Millennials recognize the value of the start-up company. With social media and instant communication, they can solve problems efficiently at companies that value speedy information exchange; according to this&nbsp;<em>New York Times&nbsp;<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2013\/11\/10\/jobs\/embracing-the-millennials-mind-set-at-work.html?action=click&amp;module=Search&amp;region=searchResults%230&amp;version=&amp;url=http%3A%2F%2Fquery.nytimes.com%2Fsearch%2Fsitesearch%2F%3Faction%3Dclick%26region%3DMasthead%26pgtype%3DHomepage%26module%3DSearchSubmit%26contentCollection%3DHomepage%26t%3Dqry452%23%2Fmillennials\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">article<\/a>, top millennial talent often goes to innovative start-ups.
